3 Revelations I Had While Watching Sinners
DEEP THOUGHTS

Sinners isn’t your typical horror film. It has a strong storyline rooted in the rich history of Clarksdale, Mississippi, an amazing soundtrack, and to my surprise, some deep revelations, which is why I’m writing this post. To share The revelations I had while watching Sinners. Before I dive in though, I want to say this is coming from a spiritual perspective of someone who has not watched a vampire film/show outside of Twilight and Count von Count from Sesame Street. With that being said, let get into it!. So with that said, let’s get into it.
Revelation 1: The House as the Body
The first revelation I had came from the scene where Cornbread returned back from peeing in the bushes. The front door was wide open, yet he didn’t walk into the house. He stood outside, indirectly asking for permission to come in. I saw this as a symbolism of us humans vs the entities, deities, and demons around us.
The house represents our body/our “temple.” The vampires represent demonic spirits, and the doors, windows, and cracks represent our eyes, ears, mouth, sex, bloodline, and trauma. These are entries/access points. Spirits; like the vampires in the film, work in legality. They can not just access to our bodies, because we have dominion over our bodies. They need permission. And we often unknowingly grant that access through what we watch, say, listen to, who we sleep with, or even through generational contracts that have passed down to us by our ancestors.
The second revelation happened when remmick and sammie were tussling in the water and sammie started to recite a verse from the Bible, Remmick chimed in and started reciting them with along with Sammie. Then remmick said “I hate those men but the words still brings me comfort”. When he said that I started shaking my leg and snapping my fingers like I was at some poetry slam… cause he said a word! He hated those men that treated him badly using the words of the Bible to do their foolishness. But those sed words still brought him comfort. You know why? Because those are the words of the true living God. And whether you believe in him or not those word still have powers.
Revelation 2: Remmick, the Bible, and Discernment
The other revelation happened when Remmick and Sammie were fighting in the water. Sammie starts reciting a Bible verse, and Remmick joins in, reciting that verse word for word. Then Remmick says, “I hate those men, but the words still bring me comfort.”
Whew. When he said that, I started shaking my leg and snapping my fingers like I was at some poetry slam. Cause he said a word.
He hated the men who used the Bible to mistreat him, but the words still brought him comfort. Why? Because they’re the words of the true and living God. And whether you believe or not; those words still hold power.
This moment wasn’t just a revelation for me; it was a reminder to use discernment.
Remmick was an evil force and even he knew the Bible.
I think when we hear someone say they’re a woman of God, someone reciting their favorite verse or cause someone is your pastor in your church. Or someone who talks about the the good they’ve done, how they like meditate and do charity.. when we hear these things that sound good to our ears, we let our guards down assuming since they’re saying these good things they’re good people because. This is why you test the spirits by their fruits aka the words gotta match up with the actions.
Revelation 3: “We’re Connected to Everything” … No.
Remmick said something like, “We are connected to everything.”
Hearing those words come from his mouth confirmed for me that the phrase is false.
Glad I gave this move a watch. Sinners gave me a lot to think about; not just as a movie, but spiritually. If you’ve seen it, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments
